Changing the World . . .
. . . Native American children are caught between two worlds, moving back and forth between them. They are drawn between two traditions . . .
- between peyote sacraments and traditional Anglo religion
- between medicine men and medical doctors
- between tribal identity and the seductive power of popular culture
- between the lessons of their grandparents and Western education.
At Holbrook Indian School, these children are prepared to meet the challenges they face in both worlds!
A Special Place . . .
Holbrook Indian School is a special place where Native American children learn in a loving, accepting, and safe environment. Where teachers care about them individually.
But most of all, where teachers are dedicated to changing the world for our first children . . . with love . . . today and every day of the year.
Are we making a difference? YES!!!
Here's what some former students had to say:
"Holbrook was my last chance to make a success out of my life. I wouldn't have two certificates for welding without the encouragement I received at Holbrook."
-- Gerald W.
Holbrook Indian School is a Christian boarding academy operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church for Native American youth. It is accredited by the Board of Regents of the General Conference.
Holbrook is part of a system of over 4,533 primary and 939 secondary schools throughout the world. Besides the well-known Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California, there are 79 other Adventist colleges and universities. Holbrook's enrollment can reach 150 students from first through twelfth grades.
Holbrook receives a modest subsidy from the Adventist church. . .and does not accept government funding. Although three-fourths of its annual budget is raised through donor support, no Native American child is ever turned away for lack of funding.
Donors help by funding:
- the family portion of the small tuition charge (Adopt-A-Student).
- the balance of tuition charged so minimum operating expenses can be met.
- library books, computers, textbooks, and other teaching aids.
- improvements for the physical plant.
- the list goes on and on.
